For this 9th edition of the Vendée Globe , 33 skippers will be on the starting line, getting ready to cover nearly 40,075 km (the circumference of the Earth). The skippers will be alone , without assistance and without a stopover possible .
They will have to go through extreme weather conditions throughout their journey, starting by going down the Atlantic, then crossing the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, and finally going up the Atlantic.
The sailboats will take to sea on November 8, 2020 at 1:02 p.m., the competitors will try to exceed the record time of 74 days and 3 hours currently held by Armel Le Cléac'h since 2017.
The departure village, welcoming thousands of people each year, has already opened its doors since October 17 : composed of an exhibitors' area bringing together 29 stands of partners and sponsors, the official store, and lots of other activities and stands to see while waiting for the long awaited departure.
