In 1851, members of the New York Yacht Club launched international sailing races by competing in England. They built a 30 meter yacht named America, which won the Hundred Guineas Cup. This landmark victory gave birth to the famous America's Cup.

The Olympic Sailing Trials

At the Tokyo Games, ten sailing events were contested, including windsurfing, mixed Nacra 17, as well as the 49ers and 470 categories.
