An original taste of the 2024 Olympic Games
From 2024, the Olympic Games will include six new disciplines allowing them to ride the wave of these sporting trends:
- 3x3 basketball
- BMX freestyle
- Breaking
- Sport climbing
- Skateboarding
- Surf
“Riding the Olympic Wave” explores this evolution and presents these six sports and disciplines, as well as the social, cultural and artistic contexts in which they flourish.
The exhibition
Thanks to a scenography full of energy and explosiveness, the exhibition recounts the breathtaking entry of these sports and disciplines into the Olympic Games.
An exhibition in four stages:
- From underground to mainstream
- On the Road to Tokyo
- The Best of Tokyo
- Riding The Future
The exhibition illustrates these themes through a series of breathtaking photos and videos, but also through testimonials from athletes present in Tokyo, providing an inside look. There are also many evocative objects; donations from emblematic athletes such as Sky Brown (Skate, GBR), Nikita Ducarroz (BMX freestyle, SUI) or even Caroline Marks (Surf, USA), who all participated from far or near in the entry of these sports and disciplines at the Games.
The end of the tour opens onto the future and gives a glimpse of the great prospect that awaits these new sports and disciplines at the next Games. Editions that will take place on almost all continents: Paris 2024, Dakar 2026 (Youth Olympic Games), Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.
A fusion of art and sport
A series of installations inaugurated over time and cultural events explore the DNA of these sports and disciplines, and their intrinsic relationship with artistic expression, creativity, a sense of community and the quest for freedom.
It is in this spirit that Mero Uno (real name David Zo Meroni), graphic designer and artistic director from Geneva, created the poster which bears the colors of the programme. His attraction to various media, from photography to video and graphic design, is reflected in his work where the different disciplines combine and complement each other in the most natural way in the world.
