At the beginning of May, the FNI published its guide of good practices in the context of nautical activities, with the main objective of allow all companies in the sector to exercise in a healthy environment and in the best possible conditions.


The Federation of Nautical Industries has put at the disposal of companies of the nautical sector a guide. 


This 28-pages guide combines a set of precise and synthetic tip sheets to help and guide waterslide companies to be effective despite the particular context of global health crisis.

All the sheets in the guide are the result of collective work by various persons in the ecosystem within the FIN. This work covers a large range of questions that could be asked by professionals in the nautical sector, since it has been carried out by various trades.

Through this document, you will find a set of tips, tools and recommendations made by the French government to guide each companies towards a safe practice of water sports and leasures. The objective of these tips sheets is to provide to the nautical row of tools in order to guarantee a practice of the nautical activity in the best possible conditions. 

This guide has different parts to answer as many questions as possible.

Specifically, you can find the barriers measures to be put in place, tips for the organization of work, for the cleaning of premises and equipment, for personal equipment and protections and many others.

To go into more details, it’s important to remember that companies of the nautical sector have to be rigorous in the application of barriers gestures and measures. It’s essential to present to all employees as well as practitioners the health rules, but also to post on your nautical spots signs reminding barrier gestures. 


Barrier actions for faced Covid-19


Barrier measures are universal, but they are mandatory:

  • Avoid gatherings and limit the number of people per activity group,
  • Implement means such as ground signage to allow for a social distance of one meter outside of activities and 4 meters during practice,
  • Wash hands every hour ideally,
  • Greet at a distance, no bevelling or hand tightening,
  • Use a single-use tissues and put it in the bin after use,
  • Ventilate the premises frequently,
  • Avoid wearing gloves if it’s not useful because they become vectors of transmission.


Companies must also take care of the general organization of work. It’s important to apply some principles for the well-being of all: 

  • Respect the rules of social distancing of 4m2 per person,
  • Focus on working at home if it’s possible,
  • Limit business travel,
  • Organize schedules to avoid team crossings,
  • Organize access to the company and traffic in the premises,
  • Adapt the use of collective spaces such as changing rooms, break rooms, restoration rooms…
  • Apply the principle of individualization (1 person = 1 equipment),
  • Communicate on the above mentioned instructions.


Regarding the cleaning of premises and equipment, several rules have been defined: 

  • Cleaning of common areas and spaces of contact should be done as regularly as possible, at least once a day,
  • Cleaning of equipment, tools and materials must be carried out after each use,
  • N.B. The virus survives 3 hours on surfaces and 24 hours on cartons!


For Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), they must be adapted according to the exposure situations identified:

  • There are various categories of masks (FFP, medical masks, barrier masks), attention FFP2 and FFP3 are reserved for patients, caregivers and jobs presenting a chemical risk,
  • Each mask has a different lifespan, go to the guide for more information,
  • Gloves should be avoided if they are not necessary because they promote the transmission of the virus,
  • The visors protect the eyes and face and can be used as a complement.

The particular context in which we are currently operating is very changing, and it’s in order to overcome this problem that the Federation undertakes to regularly update the guide, to enable you to be informed of the latest recommendations issued by the French government.

In order to help the various companies in a more complete way, particularly in the nautical sector, the FNI proposes communication tools to complement and enhance their commitments and the measures taken.

A Stop Covid-19 communication kit was written with several customizable points in order to be interchangeable and correspond to all companies (logo, poster, visual, social media post, etc).

Thanks to this tool, companies will be able to show their commitment and respect for the multiple health rules. They will also be able to inform their employees and customers of the steps they have taken.
